Values
I love silliness and curiosity
I love popcorn and pie
I love those who speak honestly
And people who change their minds
I fear judgement and bias
I fear half truths and lies
I fear those who speak too loud
And people who close their eyes
I celebrate poets and lovers
I celebrate wildly changing times
I celebrate those who show constancy
And people who try to be kind
I detest violence and greed
I detest bigotry and schemes
I dislike those who feel superior
And people who squash dreams
I value joy and quiet moments
I value fully lived and loved lives
I value patience and unseen work
And people who help each other thrive
I’m grateful for distance
I’m grateful for rhyme
I’m grateful for forgiveness
And I’m grateful for your time.
Matters of the Heart…
-
Thoughts on Love
Love is seeing another as a soft glow
Warm, bright shadows
Holding each other close
And knowing when to let go
Love is smiling ear to ear
Quiet, sure, and calm
An outstretched empty palm
Grateful to still be here
Love is knowing it’s alright
Trust in the dust of your eye
Existing without asking why
To gaze with honest sight
-
Thoughts on Thankfulness
I’m thankful for tomorrow
And for yesterday’s soft sunlight
I’m thankful for the things you do
For the sorrow, I’m thankful too
Thank you for time shared
Thank you for your laughter
Thank you for how you cared
Thank you for joined disaster
Let us keep on living
To seek out ways of giving
In a joyful, honest way
Love, that makes it worth the stay.

Thoughts on Rules
Rules are dumb
They aren’t fun
I’ll follow them if I have to.
I’ll sit up straight and clean my plate
But I like to have a good laugh, too.
My shoes are tied
My socks don’t match
I’ve never lied
Well, there’s one catch…
I guess I slouch on the couch
So I’m not sitting nice and tall
But one lie is alright
Given it’s really small
At dinner I ate every bite
Down to the last meatball
But I threw out a brussel sprout
I’m not very honest at all
Rules are silly
They slow things down
I think I’d rather be a clown.

Thoughts on Growth
“Don’t hold a grudge,
Or be quick to judge,
People learn and change,”
This is a thought I have a lot
Because life is funny and strange
It’s silly being frightened to see
An angry butterfly become a bee
They share a garden, after all
Spilling pollen as summer turns to fall
Maybe when old tadpoles hop
We’ll both take time to pause and stop
To hear the sound of sunset skies
And understand how time goes by
Still, there are things I can’t forgive
When one hurts another’s means to live
But in matters of taste or works of art
I hope to celebrate the human heart
I try not to judge
I can hold a grudge
Though I work on letting go
It’s better not to nurse a sore spot
In order to let grow
